An Introduction to Jeju United's Newest Signing Oskar Zawada

Jeju United's attacking options have been given a boost ahead of the new season thanks to the signing of Oskar Zawada, coming in from Polish Ekstraklsa side Raków Częstochowa.  The 25 year old Polish forward will be a welcome addition to the side.  KLU's Branko Belan talked to Kamil Warzocha to find out more about what he can contribute to the club.

His deft right foot can strike a lethal blow.  A student of the Wolfsburg academy, he has plied his trade with Wisla Plock and Raków Częstochowa most recently.  What can Jeju United expect from their new signing?

Despite being only 25 years old, Oskar Zawada already has notable experience in his career as he was part of the setup at Wolfsburg early in his career.  Most recently, he played for Rakow in his native Poland.  Could you tell us a bit about how it has impacted his development as a player?  What more can you tell us about the club?

As a teenager, Oskar was a really good footballer.  He showed it in Wolfsburg, where he was able to make great use of his physical conditions.  Unfortunately, the problem started when there was a lack of football skills for the Bundesliga.

The transfer to Poland was surprising, but with time it turned out that it was needed.  Oskar settled down, he gained more experience.  Of course, this is not a top striker in our league, but mainly because it relies more on physical strength and creating space for colleagues.  Rather, he should not be placed as the only striker, because it is good when he has a football player next to him to score goals with a different specificity.  I would compare him with his style of play to Olivier Giroud.

How was he viewed at the club and around the league?

This season, the club where Zawada plays is fighting for European cups and even the Polish championship.  The team's coach wanted Oscar for a task-oriented purpose.   He is not a first-team footballer and there are many great players at the club itself.  One of them is Piątkowski, who has just left for RB Salzburg for 6 million euros.  This club does not give up the players for pennies, it appreciates the development that a player can make after his departure.

What are the strongest aspects of his game?

He's good in the air and has good physical strength.  He can play both sides of the pitch and has great endurance.  He's a very brave player; he has no fear.

Are there any areas where he may need to improve?

His finishing needs to be better.  He needs to improve his technical skills and his passing, but with time, it will get there.

What were his reasons for leaving Raków?

Oskar did not have to leave Raków.  He worked for a very demanding and professional trainer, lived in Poland, and was making good money.  A trip to Korea is a trip of a lifetime, an opportunity that only happens once.  From the perspective of a Polish league player, it is an exotic destination, but I certainly would not think that Oskar has a lack of ambition.

Where can he be best utilized with Jeju?

He would be best suited as a forward waiting for a cross in the penalty area.  Or as a striker to pair with another striker.  Oskar could be the one who smashes the rivals' defenders.

What can K League fans expect from him?

Fans should expect a cool and intelligent boy to come to their club.  He will treat such an adventure with great respect.  There are no educational problems with him, he is quite a calm football player

What was his best moment with Raków?

He scored an important goal against one of the best teams in the league (Lech Poznań). Oskar showed his shooting skills and resistance to pressure.

K League United would like to extend a very warm thank you to Kamil Warzocha for providing his insights and taking the time to speak with us.  Follow Kamil on Twitter and follow his work on Weszlo.com.
