Recap: Suwon FC's Stoppage-time Equaliser Delays Daegu's First Win of the Season

Daegu FC were only a minute away from securing their first win of the season in front of a sell-out crowd after Yoshino's brilliant strike put the hosts ahead in 24th minutes in Round 3 of the 2024 Hana 1Q K League 1. However, hopes of a win were absolutely shattered when substitute Jeong Jaemin put the shot away in stoppage time for Suwon FC. Daegu FC correspondent Muyeol Jung reviewed the game and listened to Daegu's goal scorer Yoshino Kyohei in the press conference.

What happened

Daegu came into Round 3 of the K League 1, looking for their first win of the season, and they were only a minute away from it. However, their dream was completely destroyed by a second half stoppage time goal from Jeong Jaemin who pounced on the ball inside the six yard box.

The Sky Blues looked much better compared to the previous two games, and dominated the first half. Their endless efforts eventually produced when new signing Yoshino struck the ball into the top corner of the net in 24th minutes. Afterwards, the hosts went on to find the second of this afternoon through Barcelos, but couldn't take them.

A 1-0 down for the visitors forced the introduction of Lee Seungwoo and Anderson off the bench in the start of the second half, and they dragged Daegu's defence from side to side. Suwon FC had a few chances that were very close to netting, but Daegu's shot stopper Oh Seunghoon was there to deny their efforts until the stoppage time. Daegu appeared to have claimed their first win by holding onto a 1-0 lead, but they got punished in the last minute when Jeong Jaemin scored his first K League 1 goal in style for Suwon FC.

Man of the Match Yoshino Kyohei

How are you feeling after today's game?

"Coming into today's game, we were working hard with a clear goal of earning a three points, but it's really disappointing to drop two points at home".

It was a brilliant strike today. Can you talk us through a goal scoring moment?

"The manager instrcuted Bertola and me to play high, getting involved with attacking work. It was just luck that I scored this strike. Personally I am happy to score, but in this situation where Daegu were in a desperate need of a win, what I am thinking right now is how to prepare for the next game, while looking ahead".

Bertola and you play together in the midfield. How do you get along with him on the pitch?

"I have a good relationship with him and we were training day in and day out, only thinking about breaking down the opponents. I am still learning how to play well in our team's tactic".

You look strong defensively, but made some misplaced passes today. How do you find adapting to Korean football?

"Until last year, I usually played as centre-back and playing as defensive midfielder is something I am still brushing up on. My strength is defensive ability rather than passing to be honest, but passing accuracy will be back soon as I grow into this team more and more. We have played three games into the season, and I am still learning and adapting. I am not as high as I wished I was in terms of match performances. I hope I can show a better side of my game soon with more time".
