Preview: Daejeon Citizen Vs FC Anyang

For the second week in succession, Daejeon Citizen take the field on a Monday night, this time against an out-of-form FC Anyang. Citizen, who came back from the dead not once, but twice last time out to pick up a valuable point, welcome an FC Anyang side to Purple Arena who have won just once since these two sides last met in early May. Daejeon are rooted to the foot of the K League Challenge table but a win could put them within touching distance of 9th-placed Seoul E-Land. Anyang, meanwhile, will want to arrest the slide and get back on a similar run that saw the 2010-founded club knock on the door of the playoff places.

Last Time Out

Daejeon Citizen twice came back from the dead to salvage a draw against Seoul E-Land on Monday night. Despite being two goals down at the break thanks to goals from Sim Youngsung on 38 minutes and Kim Bongrae four minutes later.

In the second period Lee Youngik's men fought back to level the game at 2-2 with a header from Lee Hoseok on 56 minutes before Park Daehoon, on as a substitute, rounded the Kim Youngkwang in the E-land goal to level.

But, teading into the dying minutes, however, E-Land truck again through former Bluewing Baek Jihoon with an emphatic header to make it 3-2 to the home team. To their credit, Daejeon equalised again, this time through Cristian Danalache who stuck from close-rang in time added on to earn Citizen their 10th point of the season.

Previous Meetings

With it now officially being the second half of the 2017 season, Daejeon Citizen and FC Anyang have met twice already. The first meeting this season was at Purple Arena where FC Anyang ran out 2-0 winners. Jung Jaehee and Kim Mingyun got on the scoresheet that afternoon back at the beginning of April for what was game week five.

The most recent meeting was almost exactly a month later at Anyang Civic Stadium where, once again, Kim Jongpil's men were victorious. Cristian Danalache put Citizen ahead from the penalty spot midway through the first half with a goal that looked to be enough to send the visitors in at the break with the advantage.

Kim Minkyun, who had already scored once before against Citizen this term, bagged a two minute brace to turn the game completely on its head.

On 58 minutes Levan Shengelia levelled for Citizen but, that man again, Kim Minkyun who was making his final appearance for FC Anyang before beginning his military service, sealed his hat-trick.

Citizen have just one win against Anyang in their last eight meetings, and just three in total.

Team News

Citizen have made four signings already, even before the transfer window has officially opened, but by the time these two sides take the field come Monday night, all four should be available for selection.

Defensive duo Jeon Sanghoon and Park Jusung joined from Gyeongnam, Brazilian forward Bruno Cantanhede signed earlier this week from Israeli Hapoel Ironi Kiryat Shmona. In addition, a return for Kim Chanhee was confirmed last week. Kim Chanhee was part of the Daejeon Citizen squad who won promotion from the K League Challenge in 2014 and has penned a return having enjoyed a spell with K3 side FC Pocheon.

Anyang will be without their Ivorian midfielder Aubin Kouakou after the former Chungju Hummel man was dismissed during Anyang's 2-0 defeat at home to Asan Mugunghwa at the weekend.

Choi Jaehoon will also miss out, the 21-year-old midfielder picked up his third yellow of the campaign in the same game and so will serve a one-match suspension.

The Adversary

FC Anyang manager Kim Jongpil rang in the changes for the Violets' last game, making no fewer than eight adjustments to his team that suffered that heavy 6-2 loss to Bucheon. The formation remained as a 4-2-3-1, however, with the Anyang-born former Chungju Hummel manager seemingly insistent that this is the right formation for his team.

Anyang's last win, however, came back on 21st May against Ansan Greeners, during which Kim Jongpil stuck with his favoured 4-2-3-1 formation. Since then, defender Koo Daeyoung has departed for military service meaning that Ahn Sungbin has, on occasion at least, been filling in at right full back.

Who To Watch

If one is to look past the out-and-out strikers in the goa-scoring charts, Jung Jaehee, with his five goals from wide positions, is up there with the leading scorers. Anyang are dangerous on the break and have pace in abundance in Jung Jaehee who he has shown already this season that he can hurt teams on the break. Daejeon themselves are all to aware of having seen the 23-year-old bag against them earlier in the season. With Kim Minkyun on military service and Kouakou suspended, Jung is Anyang's main man.

Prediction

Neither team can profess to be in a rich vein of form heading into this game but Citizen will at least be bouyed by their fighting spirit against E-Land when they came back from two goal defecit to earn a draw. Daejeon played rather well at Jamsil and were unlucky not to get more from the game. Anyang, meanwhile, appear to be in somewhat of a rut and so a narrow Daejeon win would not be too far-fetched.
