Transfer Talk: Jeju United

(photo via jeju-utd.com)

Which player(s) signed in the 2014/2015 windows has performed best for your team this season?

Jeju actually strengthened quite well over the transfer window. Two of our best players this season have been Kang Su Il (he actually just returned from a loan spell at Pohang) and Lopez who were both brought in during winter and have both been important attacking players for us. Between them they have contributed to 12 goals  this  season and we have looked much better when they play. Kang has obviously grabbed the headlines with his goals but there is just something exciting about the way Lopez runs with the ball. His assist record also speaks for itself.
The only disappointment of the transfer window has been Karanga, simply due to the fact he has been injured and has hardly played. He did ok in the first few games, got injured, returned for a game and hasn't been heard of since. I'm still hoping he will make a come back at some point in the season and turn out to be the goalscorer we hoped he was.

Though it's traditionally a quiet window, if your team were to pick someone up this window who would you like it to be?

Firstly we have to look at signing a backup CB. Our first choice defence has been incredible this season, but in the two games since Alex's injury we have let in five goals. The lad that has been put in at that position, Yang Jun Ah, is a CM by trade so it is far from ideal and it really showed in those two game.

I was really happy with our attack and would have said that nothing needed to be changed, however after Kang Su Il 's overzealous use of moustache cream we may suddenly be in desperate need of a striker. A fifteen game ban has been mentioned as the lightest option, which if it were the case would put us in serious trouble. Our back up striker Kim Hyun, does not seem to have the aggression, pace or movement of Kang and it shows in his goal tally. Meanwhile (as mentioned above) the other CF we bought over winter, Karanga, seems to be massively injury prone as he has barely played since the start of the season.

Jeju currently have space for a foreign signing so I wouldn't rule out another raid of the Brazilian lower divisions, especially if Kang does get a big suspension. Adriano would be nice as he is a proven striker and his directness and pace would fit in with our current style of play, however I imagine it would be nigh on impossible to sign him.

Failing these suggestions maybe we should just buy some earplugs so the players can get a good sleep on the plane! Anything to get our first away win.

Is there someone on the team you'd like to see loaned out or sold?

To be honest we have a pretty small squad so need all the players we can get!

Who would be a great signing for the league?

Someone to pique people's interest a little. The money isn't there but any big name signing would surely increase the exposure of the league. Failing that just keeping the best players  here would be a good start.

Which team needs a transfer the most?

Obviously Daejon, although unfortunately it is probably way to late for them.. I'd like to see Gwangju continue their assault on the top six, so perhaps a striker for them. They have a lot of decent players in midfield and play good football so I reckon a decent striker would have a great time there.  A creative midfielder at FC Seoul could also be a good shout as Molina isn't in top form and Yun Ju Tae hasn't yet fully grasped the opportunity as his back up.

  1. Apparently the 15 match ban for Kang has been confirmed and he isn't going to appeal it so it looks like you need a new front man pretty urgently now.

  2. Yea I saw, really bad news. Hopefully they are working on getting someone in now so we are ready to go as soon as the transfer window opens.
