Man-of-the-Match Danrlei helps get FC Anyang off to winning start

Voted man of the match for his performance, new recruit Danrlei scored on his FC Anyang debut to get the Violets off to a winning start to the 2024 Hana Bank K League 2 season on Friday, seeing off Seongnam FC 2-0 at home.

FC Anyang's Round 1 clash with Seongnam FC was special for striker Danrlei. On his debut for the perennial promotion contenders, the Brazilian scored, was voted man of the match, and played a decisive role in the 2-0 victory.

"I'm very happy to debut for the club with such a positive performance, " Danrlei said. Adding: "Scoring a goal, being named the best player on the field, and contributing to the team's victory is an incredible feeling. I dedicate this moment to my teammates, who welcomed me with open arms, and to the fans, who supported us throughout the game. I hope this is the first of many goals with this shirt,” said the 28-year-old former Chapecoense striker.

Danrlei's goal came in the fourth minute of first-half stoppage time, capitalising on a mistake by the opposing goalkeeper in midfield. The attacker pounced on the ball, finished from distance with his left foot, and increased Anyang's advantage.

The Brazilian also made a positive assessment of the team's performance and spoke about the importance of starting the season with a victory, highlighting the confidence that the result gives for the continuation of the tournament:

“Seongnam is a good team, but we showed our determination and collectiveness on the field. All the players gave their best and this was essential for us to achieve this positive result. Winning in the first match of the season is crucial not only for the three points, but also for the confidence it gives us for the challenges that lie ahead. We will continue to work hard to achieve more good results in the competition."

The Brazilian striker arrived in the last transfer window to reinforce the Korean club. Living his first experience outside Brazil, Danrlei began his career at Independente Tucuruí. The player has spent time at Paysandu and Chapecoense and won the Copa Verde title in 2022.

Over 8,000 fans were in attendance on Friday, despite the bitter cold as the Violets looked to get off to the best possible start to the new campaign. Anyang's next match will be on March 17th, at 2 PM Korea Standard Time (2 AM Brasília time), away from home against Chungbuk Cheongju.
