Post Match | Daegu FC goalkeeper Oh Seunghoon hails importance of back-to-back home wins
Daegu FC held onto their 1-0 first-half lead through a Cesinha strike from a tight angle to go on and beat Gangwon FC in Round 29 of the 2023 Hana 1Q K League 1 campaign. This managed to earn the Sky Blues back-to-back wins at home. Daegu FC correspondent Muyeol Jung heard from Daegu's shot stopper Oh Seunghoon in the press conference at DGB Daegu Bank Park.
What’s your thought on today’s result?
"First of all, it was a very encouraging game for me personally to win the game in front of many fans and bag six points at two consecutive home games."
You had to captain the team after Cesinha had to leave with an injury. How did you cope without him as the captain?
"As Cesinha went out, I felt the team became a little shaken. Our manager also mentioned it in his teamtalk to maintain our focus. I think our lads were over-excited after he was taken off, but I repeated to them that we need to calm down and get the job done for him. Then we talked to each other to win the game for Cesinha, which acted as big motivation. I also said I'd like to win consecutive games today."
Having to concede two goals against FC Seoul in a 2-2 draw was cruel, particularly the way they unfolded for you. What went through your mind and how did you pick up yourself?
"Including that game, I think I have been having a bad season this year, but I must say that game was the worst. It was so important for us to win. I think I have been pretty unfortunate, but even something I can not control is down to me. I felt shameful after that game and went on to see the gaffer and told him that I’d like to take a break. However, the gaffer just turned me away by saying with faith in me “Let’s play two more games until the international break and see how they go”. Afterwards, I prepared even harder than ever to repay him for that opportunity. That’s how I coped with it and I am sincerely grateful to the gaffer and my teammates."
"I have a fat lump on my back and it's growing, so I think I need to remove it. I decided to get the operation done during the break. The hospital says it’d take about a month for me to return, but I will do my best to return to the team as soon as possible."
How important are the back-to-back home wins for Daegu?
To be honest, I don’t remember when we were last on a run like this, and fans had been really desperate for a victory for such a long time. I think this winning streak is a very important point that allows us to progress to the Final A group and join the Champions League competition.
