"We're still fighting and better days will come" - Incheon United's Gerso Fernandes
A point away from home with a last-minute equaliser is what Incheon United had to settle for following an enthralling encounter with Daegu FC. Incheon's Gerso Fernandes admits that, with no wins from the last five games, the situation is "difficult" but is confident that better days will come for the Durumi. K League United's Muyeol Jung spoke to Gerso Fernandes in the mixed zone after the match.
The 2-2 draw away to Daegu FC meant it was a third straight draw for Incheon United who last tasted victory in the league in April - the 2-0 win away to Pohang Steelers.
Winter recruit from Jeju United Gerso Fernandes remains on one goal for the season so far but will feel like the goals will start flowing eventually. Gerso and teammate Hernandes, who missed a penalty in the draw with Daegu, sit first and second respectively for touches in the box in K League 1 this term.

For Gerso, it's 4.48 per 90 minutes with his bested only by Ulsan's Gustav Ludwigson. Gerso's 52.17% shooting accuracy puts him joint-seventh among all players in K League. The former Seattle Sounders winger also sits second in K League 2 for one-on-one dribbles, third per 90 minutes at 6.6, and seventh for success rate at 63.1%.
Better times, then, are just around the corner, according to Gerso who spoke with K League United after the match.
Q: It was very entertaining for the neutrals but must be not the result you have wanted. What's your thought on the result?
A: "Yeah, it was a difficult game. We started well, winning and then we have to run after the result until the end of the game. But at least the boys didn't give up and at the end of the game, we were able to draw the game."
Q: Well, as you said, Incheon managed to pick up a point on the road with the stoppage-time equalizer, but Incheon really had difficulty in creating chances today and you particularly looked frustrated on the pitch tonight. What's the current situation in the dressing room and how do you think this can be improved?
A: "Oh, it's okay. It's football. You know when team are winning, everything is okay. When things are a little bit more difficult and it's easier to get frustrated. But I still think that we were able to create good, good shots. We miss a PK and we were able to fight until the end. The situation is difficult, that's true but we have a good team and if you keep fighting together, we'll be able to go over it."
Q: So many fans made a long trip to Daegu tonight, and they the filled away end so any final words to the traveling fans?
A: "Thank you. They never disappoint us. They always support us home, away - doesn't matter where we play. So we are very, very thankful for our fans. And we are sorry that the last few games we were not able to get the three points and make them happier. But we are still fighting and I believe that better days will come. So I really appreciate their support all the time. Thank you very much."
