"If we play our game we'll win" - Chungbuk Cheongju's Peter Makrillos looks ahead to Gimpo FC

The first foreign player to sign for Chungbuk Cheongju, Peter Makrillos, says he's feeling confident heading into this weekend's visit of Gimpo FC in Round 6 of the 2023 Hana 1Q K League 2. Although acknowledging that the visit of last year's K League newcomers will be tough, Makrillos believes that if Chungbuk Cheongju play their own brand of football, a second win of the season will follow.

With a goal and assist already this season, Chungbuk Cheongju's Peter Makrillos seems as though he's taken to life in K League very well. But, speaking to K League United the Australian says that it will take a bit of time before he's fully at his best:

"Obviously, it's taken a bit of time for me to adapt and I'm slowly still learning the culture, learning the tactics and all this kind of stuff. So it's gonna take me a little bit more time to be at my best, but I'm feeling good, always feeling confident."

Chungbuk Cheongju began the new season in the best possible way, picking up three points away to Seoul E-Land. However, the Lions remain stuck on one win, and up next is an in-form Gimpo FC - a side that remains unbeaten with just one goal conceded. Peter acknowledges that although Saturday's match will be tough, the aim is still to pick up all three points:

"We know defensively they're really good, they have a good plan coming into the games and stuff. It's gonna give us a little bit of an advantage playing at home in front of our fans which they've been absolutely great these last five, six games but it's a really good side - high quality, some high-quality players in there. But I do believe if we just play our game and we come there wanting it more, that we'll win the game. It's a really, really important game 'cause we've got quite a lot of games this month."

Makrillos, who has spent most of his career in Europe, and even spent time in Barcelona's famed La Masia as well as Stoke City's academy, admits that moving to Asia has always been an aim of his:

"You know, it's always been in the plan, long term. I just didn't know when was the right time for me to come. But I just had my newborn son in the last eight months and being away from home is not easy. Being in Europe is so far away from Australia and I thought now would be a good opportunity and good time with my age and, and other things, factors in my career to come to Asia. So, I have always wanted to come here eventually."
