"FA Cup run can help build confidence in K League 2": Chungbuk Cheongju's Peter Makrillos

Chungbuk Cheongju midfielder Peter Makrillos says a win in the FA Cup can help build confidence. This Wednesday, the K League 2 newcomers are away to first-division outfit Gangwon FC, and although a solid first campaign in the second tier is the priority, a good cup run could help the Lions in the long run.

Chungbuk Cheongju remain stuck on one win this term in the league and up next is a trip to Gangwon for the FA Cup third round. Lions midfielder Peter Makrillos told K League United that not much has been said about the FA Cup in terms of its importance to the club, but he personally is looking forward to the clash:

"To be honest they haven't really said anything regarding it but for me personally, I've had experience in Greece two times. I've made it to the semi-final of the Greek Cup two years in a row. So for me, I have that experience, and trying your best to get further makes a big difference in the team environment. So I think the further we can go, I think the more confidence we can have."

Gangwon are one of just two K League 1 clubs yet to win this term and so will see the visit of Chungbuk Cheongju as an ideal starting point. But Makrillos knows that, with it being the FA Cup, an upset is always possible:

"We're playing against a K1 club, a great club, but you know football, if we turn up on the day and we play really well, we can win the game. And that will only give us great confidence forward in the K2, you know? So, I think it's really important. I don't want to go into any game not wanting to win. I'm sure the other boys think the same for sure."

Full interview with Peter Makrillos coming to the K League United Podcast later this week.
