News: Gimcheon Sangmu announce first batch of 2023 recruits

Cho Young-wook, Kim Jin-kyu, and Won Du-jae are among the names announced by Gimcheon Sangmu's first batch of 2023 recruits.

The 18-man list, released on Thursday 1st December, also includes Pohang Steelers goalkeeper Kang Hyun-mu, Ulsan Hyundai winger Kim Min-jun, FC Seoul defenders Yoon Jong-gyu and Lee Sang-min, as well as Suwon FC full back Park Min-kyu.

Suwon Bluewings' Kang Hyun-muk, Jeonbuk goalkeeper Kim Joon-hong, and Suwon FC winger Lee Young-jun are the U22 options.

Gimcheon's new recruits will begin their military training on January 16th, 2023.

With a total of 91 players applying and just 18 making the cut, it was inevitable that some big names would miss out.

That includes Jeonbuk's Park Jin-seob who enjoyed an excellent first year with the Green Warriors after being named in the K League 1 Best XI and winning the FA Cup.

According to Sports G, Gimcheon personnel were surprised by his exclusion. "We are not authorised to select the players," said one Sangmu employee. Adding: "Player selection is reviewed entirely by the judges selected by the Armed Forces Sports Unit. The club only serves to convene and utilize players selected by them. We were just informed of the list of successful applicants at 10 AM. It was embarrassing for us that Jinsub is not on the list."

Meanwhile, it was reported last month that Kim Tae-wan had informed the Armed Forces Sports Unit that he would resign as manager of the team.

No announcement has been made since, though.
