Preview: Seoul E-Land vs Suwon FC

K League 2 Preview: Seoul E-Land vs Suwon FC

After a long hard campaign, with not much to cheer about for the Seoul E-Land faithful, the 2018 season comes to an end on Sunday. Suwon FC will visit Jamsil for the last game, and the final home match in the Olympic stadium for Seoul E-Land.

Refurbishments being made to the stadium, currently leaves Seoul homeless for the 2019 season, as no official stadium has yet been announced. Can Seoul see this miserable season out with a victory? Or will it be 20 losses this season, already an unwanted record for The Leopards.

Last Time Out

The last away game of the season for the capital club, saw them make the journey down to Ansan, where anything less than a win for the side would confirm their last position in the K League 2 this season.

Both teams have had a poor season on the whole and it was noticeable in the first half of proceedings. Ansan had most of the chances in the first half but struggled to put any decent crosses into the box for an attacker to connect with.

The second half brought more dull football from both sides. The two teams knew their fate this year, and it was apparent on the field, with both teams not putting any real passion into the game.

The game ended in a stalemate for the two sides, and Seoul have cemented themselves, dead last at the bottom of the table.

Final Score: Ansan Greeners 0-0 Seoul E-Land

For once, the team Seoul will play a team on the weekend had slightly worse luck in the prior round, as Suwon FC entertained Seongnam at home.

The first half ended goalless, with Suwon looking slightly sheepish in attack and moving the ball forward.

Wasted chances and runs were picked up by Seongnam, and the Magpies made it 1-0 in the 70th minute, with thanks to Eder.

Seongnam held on for the victory, and Suwon will look to try to fair better this week.

Final Score: Suwon FC 0-1 Seongnam

Previous Meetings

The last time the two sides met, was back in September, where Seoul E-Land were looking to win their first game against Suwon, in over three years.

This would be no easy task as they had to travel down to Suwon to get the job done. The first half ended goalless and it was still all to play for as the match restarted.

It only took Argentinian Diego Bielkiewicz 2 minutes after the restart to tap in the ball to make it 1-0 to The Leopards in the game.

Seoul went from strength to strength in the match and doubled their lead in the 66th minute. Cho Chan-ho making it 2-0, and recording Seoul a famous victory.

Final Score: Suwon FC 0-2 Seoul E-Land

Team News

In Chang-soo finally got the message this weekend, and returned Jeon Min-gwang, back to the center back position, where he belongs.

Seoul E-Land must already be planning for 2019 as some obvious faces are still left out of the team, in favor of some newer players, who may have not played as much as they should have throughout the year.

Choi Oh-back is still being benched for The Leopards and used as a substitute in the second half, yet when he comes on, E-Land looks more positive. Maybe its time to give him back his full 90 minutes.

Kim Young-kwang will be between the sticks for the last game of the season. He has played in every game, bar the FA Cup for the side, and has really helped them, from preventing any further embarrassing score lines.

It will be interesting to see what the boss will experiment this week, as it will be the last game of the season for the side. With that being said, and E-Land’s track record of managers, it may also be his last game too.

Prediction

Both teams in this “Superior Match", will feel as if they should have done better this year. We end where we begin with the two sides, as they actually met in the first game of the season also. Suwon ran out 1-0 winners that time around, and form hasn’t really improved for The Leopards since then.

Both teams will look to put 2018 behind them, and plan for the next year, so my advice on this game will certainly be, don’t expect a classic.

Predicted Score: Seoul E-Land 0-0 Suwon FC
