From The Stands: Gimhae FC Supporters Club

From The Stands: Gimhae FC Supporters Club

Continuing with our From The Stands series, we take a look at the supporters group of National League outfit Gimhae FC. With an FA Cup fixture against K League 1 outfit Gangwon FC on the horizon, we spoke with Gimhae FC Supporters Club member Elliot Morris to get the lowdown on the club and what it is like to support them.

Group Background

Who are Gimhae FC Supporters Club?

A group of Korean and foreign fans who support the mighty Gimhae FC!

Where is your HQ?

On game days we tend to drink in Dos Manos in Samgye-Dong or The Basement in Gusan-Dong. Both are walkable from the stadium.

Where did your name come from?

No special name...just the supporters club!

Any custom gear?

Yes! We have shirts made with our names and choice of numbers. A few of the Korean fans have scarves as well.

Where can someone find out about you online?

Best place would probably be the Gimhae FC Facebook page.

Contact person?

If anyone is interested they are more than welcome to contact myself or Kim Hyunuk.

At The Stadium

Does your section have a name? Do you share the section with other groups?

There is an old banner saying Red and Black Turtles but we don’t really use a name. It was briefly put forward to change that to the Gimhae Turtle Headers but that was quickly vetoed. We sit with the Korean fans as we are all part of the same fan group!

What does the group’s game day look like?

Often we will eat at Cafe Marjorie before the game then go buy some drinks for the stadium. After the game we normally go get drinks and sometimes end up in noraebang.

What is the group’s favourite chants/songs?

Either "GIMHAE YO" or something derogatory about Busan [Transportation Corporation]!

Traveling

How far is the group willing to travel?

We have traveled to pretty much all of the away stadiums. We do all have a dream of getting Jeju United away in the FA Cup though.

Is there a supporters bus for away games?

Quite a few times city hall have put on buses for us to attend away games. We appreciate it very much!

If you can’t make it to the game, where can you meet?

We often go out as a group in the Naeoe Dong area of Gimhae.

Do you have watch parties?

We have watched games together in the past on Naver.

Fun Facts

What is the greatest game in Gimhae history?

Anytime we beat Busan! The best match was in 2013. We were losing 1-0 and came back to score two goals in injury time to beat them.

What makes the Gimhae FC supporters club one of the best groups in K League?

We have a good mix of foreign and Korean fans. We are all very social and like to create a lively atmosphere at the games. All the fans enjoy hanging out after the matches, so its always fun on a game day.

We would once again like to thank Elliot for his time and providing more information about Gimhae FC Supporters Club. For more information, you can head over to the Gimhae FC Facebook page or head over to catch one of their matches.
