2026 K League 1 Round 7 Preview

Now half-way through the first round robin, the league table is beginning to take shape. Round 7 of the 2026 Hana Bank K League 1 season is poised to be a critcal weekend with teams looking to properly get going, maintain their momentum, or get themselves out of a run. 

Match of the Round

Daejeon Hana Citizen vs. Gangwon  FC - two teams pushing for top-half climb

Daejeon and Gangwon go head-to-head this round with the two sides virtually inseparable in the table. Both sit joint sixth with identical records of one win, three draws, and two losses, and even share the same goal tally - six scored, six conceded. Their styles have mirrored each other, too, with Gangwon leading the league in possession (57%) and Daejeon just behind in second (55%) after six rounds.

The home side Daejeon’s standout trait is their precise build-up play. They rank first in total passes (3,169) and joint third in pass success rate (86%), showcasing a well-structured approach. Seo Jin-soo leads the team with two goals and has been a constant threat in attack, topping the league for successful dribbles (7), but remains an injury doubt. However, key forwards including Joo Min-kyu, Gustav Ludwigson, and João Victor are still waiting for their first goals of the season - something Daejeon will be eager to change. If their attackers start firing, a turnaround looks well within reach as they chase a second win of the campaign at home.

Gangwon, meanwhile, found a turning point last time out. A convincing 3-0 win over Gwangju in Round 6 secured their first victory of the season and lifted the mood within the squad. At the heart of it is captain Lee You-hyeon, the team’s engine. He has been named among the “Best Runners” - awarded to the top six distance-covered players in each round - three times already this season. He capped off his performance against Gwangju with a superb long-range goal, underlining his growing influence.

With both sides ranking among the league’s top teams for possession, this clash is likely to be defined by their intricate build-up play. Recent meetings suggest another tight contest: seven of their last ten encounters have ended in draws, including three meetings last season. With both sides desperate for a win to climb the table, another fiercely contested battle is expected.

The first meeting between the two this season takes place on Sunday, 12th at 2 PM at Daejeon World Cup Stadium.

Team of the Round

Incheon United chasing three wins in a row

Incheon United endured a slow start to the season, going winless in their opening four matches (one draw, three losses), but have since turned things around with back-to-back wins - 1-0 against Anyang in Round 5 and 2-1 over Gimcheon in Round 6 - to climb to fifth. Now, they are aiming to make it three wins on the spin.

They currently sit joint second in the league for goals scored with eight, thanks largely to Stefan Mugosa. The Montenegrin striker has been in sensational form, registering six goals and one assist to lead both the scoring and overall goal involvement charts. He has recorded a goal contribution in every match so far, and another this round would see him set a new K League 1 record for most consecutive goal involvements from the start of a season (seven games).

Defensively, though, there is still room for improvement. Incheon have conceded in every match except their Round 5 win over Anyang, and eight of their ten goals conceded this season have come in the second half. Maintaining focus until the final whistle will be key.

Incheon face Ulsan HD in Round 7, with the two sides evenly matched in recent meetings—two wins, six draws, and two losses over their last ten encounters. The match kicks off at 4:30 PM on Saturday, 11th at Incheon Football Stadium.

Player of the Round

Gwangju’s attacking spearhead Shin Chang-mu

Gwangju FC suffered a 3-0 defeat to Gangwon FC in Round 6, extending their winless run to four matches (two draws, two losses). Despite their recent struggles, they will look to veteran forward Shin Chang-mu to spark a turnaround.

Shin, now in his 13th professional season since debuting with Daegu in 2014, remains a key figure thanks to his pace, dribbling ability, and powerful left foot. He has already scored two goals this season and continues to lead Gwangju’s attack.

His impact is also clear in the underlying numbers. Five of his seven shots this season have been on target, highlighting his efficiency in front of goal. He also leads the team in key passes (11) and successful crosses (11), consistently creating opportunities for teammates. If Shin can maintain this level of performance, Gwangju may finally break their winless run and build momentum.

Gwangju take on Bucheon this round, with kickoff set for 4:30 PM on Saturday, 11th at Gwangju World Cup Stadium.
