News: Hwaseong FC's K League 2 membership confirmed, new player loan rules announced

The K League has now officially granted Hwaseong FC's membership and made changes to loan player rules, following the first board meeting and general assembly of 2025 held on Monday 13th January.

Approval of Hwaseong FC Membership

Hwaseong FC’s K League membership was officially approved at the general assembly. The club had applied for membership in October 2024 and received preliminary approval from the board in November. With Hwaseong FC’s membership confirmed, the 2025 K League 2 season will consist of 14 teams, each playing 39 matches.

President’s Election Report and Appointment of New Executives

Current President Kwon Oh-gap was re-elected as the 13th president. The Federation’s Presidential Election Committee accepted candidate registrations from December 24 to 30, 2024, with Kwon Oh-gap being the sole candidate. After confirming his eligibility, the committee declared him president-elect, and he officially began his new term at this general assembly.

Vice President Han Woong-soo, Secretary General Cho Yeon-sang, and Auditor Kim Cheon-soo were reappointed. Kim Ho-young, who has served as Acting Technical Committee Chair since September 2024, was appointed as the new Technical Committee Chair. Kim has been a technical committee member since 2022.

Additionally, new board members include Noh Dong-il (CEO of Gwangju FC), Ji Hyun-chul (CEO of Gyeongnam FC), and Jun Dal-soo (former CEO of Incheon United).

Amendments to Player Regulations

The maximum number of players a club can loan in or out has increased from five to six, in line with FIFA regulations. The number of players loaned between the same clubs has also increased from one to three, with the maximum loan duration set at one year.

Previously, there were no provisions for registering players during military enlistment periods outside the regular and additional registration windows. A new regulation now allows players to be registered at times designated by the Federation.

With the removal of the Asia Quota and Southeast Asia Quota, regulations for registering players eligible for multiple national teams with AFC or ASEAN nationalities have been scrapped.
