Cố lên Seoul E-Land! : The Leopards Announce Vietnam Day for Upcoming Fixture

It has been announced this week that the Seoul E-Land will be promoting a special ‘Vietnam Day’ for their game against Cheonan City in the 2023 K League 2 this Saturday.

The day is to highlight Seoul’s forward Nguyễn Văn Toàn, as the first Vietnamese player to play for the club. It is also important to note that manager Park Chung-kyun was once manager of Hanoi FC, and the assistant manager of the Vietnamese national team.

Hopefully, the event will be a welcome invite for fans from near and far to watch Văn Toàn search for his first goal for the club.

They will be playing a Cheonan City side however, who will be more focused on claiming their first three points of the season. Michael Redmond takes a look at what can be in store for this one.

Match Details

Match: Seoul E-Land vs Cheonan City
Date: Saturday, 13th May, 2023
Time: 13:30 KST, 11:30 ICT
Venue: Mokdong Stadium, Leoul Park, Seoul

Fans outside of Korea can watch this here

Special Days

It is not the first time that Seoul has made special days to promote matches. In the past, fans were treated to free beverages for selected evening games through the summer of 2018. This feature was very welcoming for the long hot evenings watching Seoul plummet to the bottom of the K League 2 Table.

The Leopards have also put on firework and drone shows when they played four games in Jamsil. This came in the middle of a 2019 season where they called Cheonan home.

Seoul E-Land have put on many events over the years
Seoul have also pushed Children’s Day events in the past as well as a travel-themed day. This was when it was still difficult to travel due to the pandemic. Seoul E-Land Airways guided the fans around an eventful day and kept newcomers entertained.

Seoul have been open to introducing special themed days in the hope of welcoming new fans to Leoul Park and Saturday’s fixture will be no different.

Seoul life for Nguyễn Văn Toàn

It has been a slow start for Nguyễn Văn Toàn this season for Seoul. The forward has played just six games for the Leopards with only one of those games being in the starting lineup and never finishing a full 90 minutes.

However, the forward was injured for the majority of April. He also has an assist to his name when Seoul beat Bucheon 1995 FC 6-0 in the FA Cup.

Nguyễn Văn Toàn joined Seoul E-Land for the 2023 K League 2 Season
Nguyễn Văn Toàn is quickly becoming a fan favourite at the club, due to his plucky play and aggression on the ball. The Vietnamese international is not afraid to put a tackle in and has shown some passion for the club when he plays.

Nguyễn Văn Toàn will look forward to the idea of scoring on Saturday.

Who to Watch

It has turned out to be a battle at the bottom for these two teams this Saturday. Seoul sit in 10th place while Cheonan are in last place, with only one point.

Ten points separate the two teams and both are desperate to win for different reasons. Seoul need to start picking up some wins to climb the ladder and prove that they are playoff contenders.

For Cheonan, they will want to win to finally prove that they are not just in the K League 2 to make up the numbers. The side has still to win this season in 11 outings.

Both sides really need to give their fans a life. Seoul fans have not had a terrible season, but Cheonan fans are really looking for a glimmer of hope in a very dark season.

Final Thoughts

It will be interesting to see if Seoul can continue to pick up form in the league. They are undefeated in two games which include a win against Gyeongnam away and a draw against top-of-the-league Gimpo FC.

For Cheonan City, it is damage limitations at this point already so early into the season. They have one point out of a possible 33 and still are without a win. Gimpo FC have shown how it can work for teams from the lower leagues to come up to professional leagues.

However, at the moment, Cheonan are not able to replicate Gimpo's success. Overall, Saturday should be an interesting fixture for both teams as well as fans on the pitch and off it too.
