"I am pleased with a 1-0 win over Daejeon": Daegu FC Boss Choi Wonkwon

Daegu FC came out on top at home against a sensational Daejeon Hana citizen after the Sky Blues held onto 1-0 lead through Cesinha's spot kick in the first half.  Daegu FC correspondent Muyeol Jung attended the post-match interview and listened to what Daegu manager Choi Wonkwon had to say after a crucial win over Daejeon.

Q: It was a physical and tough game but a vital three points for Daegu. How are you feeling?

A: "First of all, I'm very satisfied with winning the game without conceding a goal. Daejeon had been in fine form and they have many good players, but I think we controlled the game well. Prior to the game, the atmosphere in our dressing room had been thick and dense because we hadn't been able to pull off the results we wished for, but we strongly believed that the right time would come for us to get on the flow. We promised to create the flow with the players from today. It was a difficult game, but we did well. I think we can prepare for the Suwon FC away game without much concern."

Q: With the return of Cesinha, Daegu's performance has improved. How do you see this?

A: "After Cesinha's return, our performance has definitely improved. He is kind of a player who can act as a game changer without doubt. Since we can't afford to rotate our squad as much as we wish, our attacking trio Edgar, Cesinha, and Go Jae-hyun are always playing games week in and out with some fatigue, but I believe they can handle it well. Also, the presence of Cesinha will make Edgar, Lee Geun-ho, Go Jae-hyun, and Barcelos become more dangerous."

Q: Edgar missed some big changes today. How do you assess his performance?

A: "Everyone knows Edgar is not in his best form at the moment after such a long hiatus. Players usually improve their match fitness and sharpness through playing games and Edgar wanted to continue to play when I asked him. I don't know if it is just my obsession about him, but I still have faith in him and my trust remains same even though he missed goal chances today. I hope he will regain his form soon."

Q: Daegu only used three substitutions out of the possible five. Is it something to do with defensive cohesion?

A: "Yes, I think the flow of the game is very important. We were leading 1-0 and we came under the attack time after time. Of course we could have found a way to turn things around with some changes, but we didn't because I didn't want to break our cohesion on the pitch."

Q: Who would you choose for the man of the match from Daegu?

A: "Well, it's not easy, and they all deserved it. But if I had to choose, I think it would be Cesinha. I think it was a game where, once again, we witnessed what Cesinha is capable of."
