Daegu Captain Kim Jinhyuk Apologies for Poor Results

Once-sensational Daegu FC are looking dull and lacklustre and find themselves in the bottom half of the table. In midst of their recent struggling form, Daegu Captain Kim Jinhyuk has apologised to the fans and promises that the team will rebound. K League United's Daegu FC correspondent Muyeol Jung caught up with Daegu Captain Kim Jinhyuk after the match and wraps up what is happening at the club.

What is happening?

Incheon United Kim Dohyeok's header in stoppage time of the second half sinks Daegu FC into a 3-2 defeat at DGB Daegu Bank Park. This win is vital for the Durumi, hoping to achieve a top six finish in the league, while this defeat means that the Sky Blues' winless streaks extends to eight (3D and 5L) in the league.

Kim Apologies and Promises

After the Incheon game, the Sky Blues' Captain Kim Jinhyuk bowed to the home fans for the recent poor results, saying:
"First of all, I'd like to say sorry for today's result and our team's situation. Frankly speaking, we don't know the exact reason why this [defensive errors and mistakes leading to dropping points from winning position] keeps happening to us. We are putting in a lot of blood, sweat, and tears and are talking to each other to make things better. I know this is a pathetic excuse, but please be patient with us. I am not going to lie, but we will turn the tide. No matter what, we will get good results. I am extremely sorry and please give us more time. Thank you."

The versatile player had to deal with fans directly after Daegu's defeat to Suwon Bluewings last Sunday soared fans' anger the highest. On that night after the defeat, he posted on his Instagram, saying "I'd like to say sorry to fans for today's result and my behaviour."

He continued "I feel like I am short on every aspect to lead the team as skipper on and off the pitch. The reason why Daegu FC are struggling is down to me. So I'd like to step down as captain once we have overcome this crisis."

He also added that "We [Daegu players] are not just saying this to dodge this moment. We work tirelessly and make sure we get the result. Please be patient with us for a while. We are extremely sorry and grateful to fans for their support, rain or shine.

On the question why he posted this apologetic message in a post-match interview with K League United after Incheon game, he spoke in a low tone and said: "As you know, I just wanted to say sorry to fans. Considering what we are going through, I felt responsible as captain on behalf of our players and the team."

Last, he did not forget his promise and spoke with a degree of determination before walking out of the mixed zone: "We will get over this difficult time as a team."

What's next?

With the summer heatwave at its peak, Daegu FC will travel to Chuncheon to face off against Gangwon FC this Wednesday evening (7:30 pm kick off local time), looking to break the chain of winless matches. This season the Sky Blues beat the Bears 3-0 at home thanks to a goal from Kim Jinhyuk, Bruno Lamas, and Jeong Taewook after a 2-0 defeat away from home in their first meeting of the season.

On a bright side, Chuncheon is a happy hunting ground for the Sky Blues as they have been always victorious there in four meetings; 1-3, 0-1 in 2018 and 0-2, 2-4 in 2019. This game will be broadcast on K League TV worldwide.
