Boisterous Bucheon move off bottom after beating disappointing Daejeon

Two goals in the first nine minutes helped Bucheon FC 1995 moved off the bottom of the Hana 1Q K League 2 table after a 4-2 home victory over promotion contenders, Daejeon Hana Citizen. The Reds scored four in a K League match for the second time in four matches to exact revenge after conceding four to the Purples when these two sides last met. 

Bucheon boss Lee Young-min set his side up in a 3-4-3 to start the match with Han Ji-ho as the focal point, flanked by goal scorers Park Chang-jun and Lee Si-heon. 

Daejeon began with a 4-1-4-1, Lim Eun-soo as the screening midfielder and Ishida Masatoshi behind Park In-hyeok as the main striker. Bruno Baio had to make do with a place on the bench, despite his match-winning goal against Gyeongnam last week. 

First half

GOAL!! The game was barely a minute old before the hosts opened the scoring. Bucheon's top scorer Park Chang-jun steered home Lee Si-heon's low cross from the right unmarked. Question marks will be asked of Daejeon's full back Choi Ik-jin who lost his man. It was the first goal that Daejeon's young goalkeeper, Lee Jun-seo, had conceded in 360 minutes of football having kept four straight cleansheets prior.


GOAL!! Just nine minutes on the clock and it was 2-0, Bucheon once again getting in behind and allowed to get a cross in. This time it was Lee Si-heon who nodded home, Cho Hyun-taek credited with the assist. Neither Daejeon centre back dealt with Lee in the middle who, unopposed, doubled the hosts' advantage.


The quickfire double had the Purples in the ropes and allowed Bucheon to sit back and invite the visitors to try and break them down. At this point, Bucheon had switched to more of a 5-4-1 without the ball with Han Ji-ho hovering around the half way line in hope of a breakaway. 

After 26 minutes the first substitution was made, former Bucheon forward Kong Min-hyun came on in place of Jeon Byeong-kwan to make a Daejeon front three of Kim Seung-seop, Kong, and Park In-hyeok, backed by a midfield three of Masa, Alibaev and Lim Eun-soo.

But almost straight away Bucheon came very close to making it 3-0. Daejeon centre back Lee Woong-hee was dispossessed in a dangerous area but the shot which followed was parried away to safety by Lee Jun-seo in the Daejeon goal.

An extra man in attack allowed Daejeon to put together one or two combinations. The slicker passing was encouraging if not lacking a little purpose. 

GOAL!! Lee Woong-hee's through-ball made it's way to Kim Seung-seop who, with pace, headed to the byline before pulling the ball back across goal towards the back post where Kong Min-Hyun, on as a sub, steered the ball home. Game on!

Daejeon had the chance to level just five minutes later too with a free-kick towards the corner flag. Alibaev dummied, Seo Young-jae lofted in an in-swinger into to the box but goal keeper Choi Cheol-won punched away to safety.

A fire had been lit under Daejeon who, with half time approaching, had got themselves back into the game at an ideal time. The first half concluded after one minute of time added on. Bucheon had the best of most of the first half, Daejeon sprang into life after halving the deficit.

Second half

No personnel changes were made from either manager at half time but it was clear that Bucheon were determined to keep hold of their lead. Daejeon began the second period with plenty of purpose about them but struggled for composure.

Daejeon's game plan was clear, though - to get the ball into the forward players quickly and try to stretch Bucheon on the counter. 

On 54 minutes Bucheon's Ahn Tae-hyun had a glorious chance to put daylight between the two teams when the hosts hit Daejeon on the counter but his shot was tame and goalkeeper Lee Jun-seo claimed the ball calmly.

At the other end, Kim Seung-seop had a chance but his shot was blocked and Kong Min-hyun's follow up was blazed over the bar. If there were to be more goals in this game then the quality of the finishing would have to improve.

Masa began to pull the strings for Daejeon, dropping deep to try and thread the ball through to the likes of Park In-hyeok and Kong Min-hyun. Alibaev, too, his usual busy self. 

On 70 minutes Daejeon came ever so close to finding an equaliser. Seo Young-jae's cross from the left met Park In-hyeok who stuck a leg out. The 25-year-old's effort rolled millimetres wide of the post but was the Purples' best chance of the half so far.

GOAL!! While Daejeon were trying to make a sub, Bucheon made it 3-1. Cho Su-cheol showed off his flexibility with something of a bicycle kick to all-but seal the win for the Reds.


Daejeon made two changes in the space of two minutes, Alibaev and Park In-hyeok coming off with Won Ki-jong and Bruno Baio coming on.

GOAL!! 4-1! Bucheon make it four, Park Chang-jun with his second of the night and of the season after hitting Daejeon on the counter.

GOAL!! The scoring wasn't finished there though as Bruno Baio, on as a sub, rolled the ball into the bottom corner in the fourth minute of time added on. It was his second league goal of the season and second in as many outings. 

Summary

It was a poor display from Daejeon, sloppy defending and disjointed in attack. A second shot at the play-offs in as many years looks to be their best chance of promotion this year given how ruthless Gimcheon Sangmu look. 

The blame for this embarrassing defeat will fall at the feet of manager Lee Min-sung who made some surprising decisions with his first XI. Midfielder Park Jin-seop being used as a centre back simply didn't work, and not for the first time this season. Centre back Lee Ji-sol was left on the bench, despite being Daejeon's best ball-carrying centre back. 

Baio too was left on the bench despite scoring the winner over Gyeongnam last time out. A second goal in as many matches will help his confidence and give Lee food for thought ahead of Busan away next week. 

The game was crying out for someone who could play in the half spaces, someone such as Lee Jin-hyun who was left on the bench. Choi Ik-jin didn't have the best of games at right back and was a surprising inclusion given that Lee Jong-hyeon was on the bench, a player who has scored twice and provided three assists this term. Daejeon will have to regroup before Busan away next week.
