Super Match Interview: 'I lost hope', says Osmar
It was a dramatic afternoon of football following the first Super Match of the season, a game of football which was fitting of the occasion. At Big Bird, in front of a raucous crowd of over 24,000 fans, Suwon Bluewings and FC Seoul played out a 1-1 draw with Dejan firing the hosts into the lead before Park Chuyoung levelled from the spot in the dying embers. For FC Seoul central midfielder, Osmar, it was a first Super Match since 2017 and a match where the Spaniard admits he almost gave up hope in.
"Honestly, I have many emotions inside me right now because the team's performance, of course I would like to play better, but today was - I would say, most of the game was good. We play away at Suwon, the Super Match and all the circumstances but I have to confess that I lost hope before the goal when we missed the first penalty. I have to thank my teammates for pushing the team, they played really smart - this last free kick, I think this free kick gave us the point.
"But on the other hand I am tired all the teams putting a man on me and I cannot play. I want to do more for my team, for the performance, for the show, for everything but all the teams but a man on me so I cannot do my job, I just keep running, I get tired, I get frustrated."
In the centre of midfield Cho Youngwook was brought in to partner club captain Go Yohan, filling in for the suspended Ikromjon Alibaev following the Uzbek international's sending off at Jeonbuk last weekend. It pose the question of whether Alibaev's absence was felt.
"It depends on the game, the opponent. Today we played with two really offensive midfielders so we knew that we would give up some space, I knew my job was to cover the space. Ali [Alibaev] is a little bit more of a midfielder than than those two guys so I think we missed him today, I think we could have used him a bit better today but it was okay [Go] Yohan and [Cho] Youngwook did a great job, they ran all over the pitch and they did really good."
Away to Jeonbuk, FC Seoul managed to get themselves back in the game with a late equaliser only for the hosts to go on and fire home a late, late winner deep into stoppage time. This time, at Big Bird, a late goal was to Seoul's benefit.
"This is K League, [there are] goals in the last five minutes and still we don't learn the lesson that we have to keep concentrating until it's over. Also, for me, they [match officials] extend the game too much with injury time so today it could be fair, tomorrow it's unfair."
In the K League United Podcast interview with Osmar and Dejan last week, both agreed that it had all the ingredients of being an entertaining match.
"From inside I wouldn't say it was boring match. We had a few occasions where of course you can expect more from a Super Match but we also said always the first Super Match of the season is kind of cagey, maybe there is too much respect but it was an emotional game.
"For a while it seemed like Seoul lost hope, that we couldn't do anything. Dejan came in, he changed the game, suddenly we miss a penalty, and something else happens. It was the meaning of a Super Match - dramatic."
