On Monday, after a normal day's training, and without even notifying the players of his decision, Hwang Sunhong offered his resignation as first team manager of FC Seoul. The players first heard of Hwang's departure via the club's statement which was released on Monday 30th April on the club's official website and social media channels.
"It is with heavy heart that I deliver this farewell message. From these past two years as manager of FC Seoul I will take with me special memories and valuable experience," FC Seoul's 11th manager said in his statement.
"More than anything I just want to convey my gratitude and regret to the supporters; I always tried my best but in the end it wasn’t enough. Because I couldn’t deliver a better team and better results, for that I am truly sorry. With more more hard work and effort I wanted to make improvements to make up for the deficiencies.
"In addition, I want to thank all the players who were with me through all the good times and the bad, and to have the opportunity to be the manager of FC Seoul I would like to sincerely thank the owners, the general manager as well as all the staff; thank-you very, very much.
"In the future, wherever I may be, I will always remember this experience and use it to become a better manager.
"Again, for all the support throughout my time at FC Seoul, again thank-you very much. I will continue to support the players and FC Seoul."
On Wednesday night FC Seoul begin life without Hwang Sunhong with an away fixture with Gyeongnam, preview here.
