K League FIFA 17 Tournament

Test your FIFA 17 skills at our second in-person tournament at The Upper Deck on Saturday, September 23rd. We'll have prizes on hand for first and second place as well as Golden Boot, Golden Glove, Best Goal, and more!

Once again we're inviting you to offer up your best against fellow K League fans and gamers vying for the top spot in a FIFA 17 tournament! Just like last time we'll be tossing aside the typical five-star team matchups in favor of representing Korea's best. However, unlike last time, we'll be making things a bit more interesting and collecting ₩5,000 from participants to increase the number of prizes!

Picking Teams

The 12 K League Classic teams will be assigned on a first come first served basis based on the sign up sheet below. Once assigned a team, players must keep that team throughout the entirety of the tournament. Duplicate entries will be allowed if all 12 Classic team slots are filled. In the event of duplicates facing each other, a coin toss will determine who gets home field advantage.
*Please note Seongnam FC and Suwon FC are still in Classic in FIFA 17 as it hasn't been updated to include Daegu FC and Gangwon FC's promotions.

Game-play Settings

  • 5 minute halves
  • Substitutions: players are only allowed to pause the game if their team has possession.
  • Injuries: On
  • Off Sides: On
  • Camera: Tele Broadcast

Standings and Tie-Breakers

Three points will be awarded for a win, one point for a draw and zero points for a loss in the group stage. If two (or more) teams are tied on points after the Group Stage, the following tiebreakers will be used to determine who advances, and who wins the group:
  1. Result of head to head match.
  2. Goals scored. We're mimicking K League here and going with goals scored instead of goal difference to encourage some free scoring affairs.
  3. If two teams are still tied, there will be a penalty shootout to determine the winner.

Score Recording

Scores will be reported to the score table by both players after the game and put up on a big board to keep track of group points.

General Rules

Though we in no way expect this to happen, K League United reserves the right to disqualify players from the tournament for misconduct or abrasive behavior. Please show respect and friendliness with the other participants and those running the tournament. Disqualified players will no longer be able to participate in the tournament and will automatically lose every match with the maximum score of 3-0.

However, since that's not going to happen, here are the more basic rules:
  • All games will be played on a PlayStation 4 in a customized Tournament Mode.
  • All players must play using the settings laid out here.
  • Frequent and purposeful pausing during game play may be subject to disqualification.
  • Every participant should be available for the duration of the tournament, or until their elimination.
    • If a player does not show for the game, they will lose that match by forfeit 3-0.
  • If any equipment is lost or damaged by a player, said player has to pay for it.
  • By entering this tournament, each participant consents to the posting and use of his or her name and/or photograph on K League United's Facebook, Twitter, and website. (We'll make sure you look nice!)

Format and Match Schedules

Just like our first tournament, we're breaking things up into three groups of four to ensure as much game time as possible for everyone involved. Here are the groups:

  • The winner of each group will automatically move on to the knockout stages.
  • The two second place teams with the highest point totals will play a single elimination match to determine who will face the group winner with the highest point total.
  • The knockout stages will be played over two legs.
    • The advantage of winning your group is avoiding the single elimination match.
  • The winners of the knockout stages will face off in a single match Final to determine the winner.
  • The full schedule is available in the Facebook Event.

Prizes

With the new entry fee comes a cash prize for the winner! Here's how the rewards will break down:

CHAMPION:  ₩40,000 cash
RUNNER UP:  ₩20,000 certificate to Upper Deck

GOLDEN BOOT: Free drink

RAFFLES: We'll also be selling raffle tickets for ₩1,000 to win a few items.

See you Saturday, September 23rd at The Upper Deck Sports Bar!
13 Hoenamu-ro, Itaewon-dong, Yongsan-gu, Seoul
