Daejeon earned their only point of the season thus far thanks to a 1-1 draw at home to fellow promotion favourites Seongnam FC last Sunday.
Despite the eagerness to bounce back from the opening day defeat to Ansan, things didn't quite go to plan in the earlier stages of first period for Daejeon as the Purples fell behind thanks to an early Seongnam goal.
Former Anyang defender Kim Taebong gave away a foul towards the touchline deep into the Daejeon half from which the resulting free kick, a looping cross, made it's way to the back post where Seongnam defender Ahn Jaejun was waiting to nod the ball home from point blank range.
On 36 minutes Daejeon were level, though, thanks to Lee Hoseok who scored his second goal in as many games for Citizen.
The home side hit Seongnam on a counter attack started by centre back Yun Shinyoung who intercepted the ball on the 18-yard line before clearing the ball into the path of winger Kim Jungjoon on the left flank.
The former Ulsan Dolphins man cut inside and found Lee Hoseok on the opposite wing in acres of space with a clever pass; Lee Hoseok's shot took a slight deflection to beat Seongnam goalkeeper Kim Dongjun but he didn't mind one iota.
Meanwhile, Seoul E-Land lost 1-0 at home to Gyeongnam thanks to a Jung Hyuncheol goal midway through the second half.
Brazilian forward Marcao picked up the ball just outside the box before threading a clever reverse pass through to Jung Hyuncheol who then calmly took the ball past Choi Hojung, leaving the E-Land defender in a heap on the floor, before neatly finding E-Land 'keeper Kim Youngkwang's bottom right-hand corner to seal all three points.

Previous Meetings
Towards the tail end of the 2016 season, when both sides were gunning for the playoffs, the two sides played out a five goal thriller at Purple Arena in which E-Land ran out winners.
The visitors took an early lead with a Carlisle Mitchell goal inside ten minutes before Tarabai Santos doubled E-Land's advantage on 22 minutes.
Despite looking dead and burried, Daejeon, spurred into life towards the end of the first half, pulled one back in added on time through Jin Daesung to half the deficit heading into the interval.
However, E-Land restored their two goal lead ten minutes into the second period thanks to a goal from Kim Juntae to put daylight between the two sides once again.
Jean-Claude Bozga pulled one back for Citizen on 65 minutes, which prompted a spell of late pressure, but the Purples were unable to find an equaliser and all but said goodbye to any playoff hopes.
Out of the four times Daejeon and E-Land faced off against each other last year, Daejeon won just once; a 2-1 home win last May when Park Daehoon and Kim Dongchan had Citizen two up with goals after two and 77 minutes respectively before with Carlisle Mitchell notched a late consolation goal in added time for E-Land.
Team News
Lee Youngchang could continue in goal after starting the 1-1 draw against Seongnam FC, stepping into replace Jeon Soohyun.
Former Jeju United goalkeeper Jeon Soohyun, the holder of the number 1 jersey at Purple Arena, started against Ansan on the opening day but was dropped for the aforementioned Seongnam draw.
The 30-year-old Busan native watched on from the stands but was not injured.
Georgian winger Levan is a doubt after the on loan AFC Tubize man was taken off with a knock picked up last Sunday and so is expected to face a late fitness test.
For E-Land, Kim Byungsuk, who spent four years at Daejeon Citizen, is expected to face his old team having made the switch from Purple Arena to Jamsil over the winter.
