Preview: Chungju Hummel Vs Daejeon Citizen

Chungju Hummel Vs Daejeon Citizen

Saturday 21st August 2016 Hyundai Oilbank K League Challenge Round 11 Kick Off 3:00PM KST

After suffering the pain of a late winner for Gangwon in the 1-0 home defeat to the league’s leaders two weeks ago, Daejeon bounced back with aplomb; first seeing off Suwon City in the FA Cup before comfortably and professionally displacing bottom club Gyeongnam with a 3-1 win.

The result against Gyeongnam meant that Daejeon moved up to 7th and are just two victories away from the playoffs spots.

The recent upturn in form is a far cry from the lacklustre displays the Daejeon faithful were served up at the very start of the season, having seen their beloved side lose the first four games of the campaign.

However, up next for Citizen is a very winnable game as the Purples make the relatively short trip north to North Chungcheong to take on Chungju Hummel.

Chungju have just one victory all season, a 1-0 win at home to Anyang in April, and welcome Daejeon on the back of four straight defeats.

Such poor form sees the Hummel-branded outfit second bottom, only Gyeongnam’s points deduction is keeping them from propping up the table.

If Daejeon are to mount a serious playoff push then seeing off sides like struggling Chungju is an absoulte must.

Previous Meetings

Daejeon have never lost to Chungju, having only faced the North Chungcheong-based side for the first time two years ago.

The most recent meeting was on 20th September 2014 at Purple Arena where the two sides played out a 1-1 draw.

Adriano put the home side ahead early on but Lim Jin-Wook leveled just after the hour mark, meaning that Daejeon’s 100% record over Chungju was no longer intact.

Three Daejeon victories preceded said draw, the most recent of those was a comfortable 3-0 victory for Citizen in July 2014.

Jung Seok-Min put Daejeon ahead after 21 minutes before Brazilian ace Adriano bagged a brace to wrap up the scoring and indeed the points.

A 1-0 win at Daejeon World Cup Stadium in June of 2014 came after a 4-0 thrashing at Chungju Stadium in April that year.

Other News

Following the draw for the 5th round of the FA Cup, Daejeon will face Incheon United on Wednesday 22nd June.
