Koreans Abroad Midweek Recap and Weekend Preview

(image via ogol.com.br)
By @KoreaFootAbroad

So in a weird scheduling quirk, almost everything will be on Sunday outside of Crystal Palace.  We're entering spring coaching season for me (now I've got 2 teams) so we'll see how much I get to see live (/update via twitter) vs. have to watch on replay.

Lee Chung Yong -- I don't see a major change.  It sounds like Sako might not be ready for this weekend in which case, he should be ok for the bench at least.  But we'll see if he sees the pitch.

Ki Sung Yueng -- Swansea looked like they needed Ki last week and he's had a lot of recovery time from his concussion so I expect him to start against tough Tottenham.  We'll see exactly how they'll line up but it certainly wasn't good without Ki in prior match.

Son Heung Min -- The match was more or less settled by the time subs were needed and as a result, Son was rested on the bench the entire match.  He should be fresh for Sunday vs Ki and Swansea and I think he's more likely than not to start though with Lamela scoring a nice one, he could stay on the bench.

Koo Ja Cheol -- Played the CM role and struggled a bit for impact in the first half, especially vs. Liverpool's press.  Under pressure, Koo had a pair of really poor touches that gave Liverpool some chances.  He probably should have been in CAM as Augsburg struggled more to get good chances to score.  The injuries caught up to Augsburg and they were knocked out as there just weren't enough good players for all the holes.  He should start again this weekend, even if tired, with few alternative choices on the bench.

Ji Dong Won -- He was left out of the squad midweek with an illness but hopefully he's recovered for a tough match this weekend.  If he's healthy and fit, I think he will start with the offense really struggling vs Liverpool.

Hong Jeong Ho -- Still out with injury.  Hopefully nearing a return to the squad because there were some holes in the central defense midweek.

Park Joo Ho -- He didn't travel with the squad midweek and I don't expect him to make the squad this weekend either.

Kim Jin Su -- With Hoffenheim in better spirits, I don't see too much changes and since Toljan is a better backup FB, I don't expect him to make the squad, but against a much more difficult defensive challenge vs Dortmund, perhaps Nagelsmann goes with a proper FB in KJS this Sunday.

Suk Hyun Jun -- Was on the bench to start as Porto looked to have thrown in the towel on advancing in Europa.  A good sign for Suk who could start this weekend.  He did come on with about 30 minutes left and provided some good hustle though the match was going in slow motion by that point.  He had a nice pass that was struck against crossbar.
