Frustrating. Bad. Good.

It was a bit of a roller coaster ride of emotions for Busan fans this past week. The team dropped points (yet again) right at the death in round 8 against Ulsan, was eliminated in the Korean FA Cup midweek against K League Challenge side Gangwon, and then held on to win on Children's Day against Pohang. Frustrating. Bad. Good.

Ulsan 1-1 Busan

The week got off to another frustrating draw at the Munsu courtesy of an unfortunate last minute own goal. Weslley had given the team the lead just before the break, but 20 year-old debutant Kim Jong-hyuk deflected a shot in past Lee Bum-young right at the end. A tough beginning for the youngster (it probably also didn't help that Lee Bum-young gave him a shove/tongue lashing as well). Hopefully things get better for him soon. The graphic below (courtesy of busanipark.com) shows the teams continuing troubles of conceding late goals. Eight of the 12 conceded this season have come in the last 15 minutes of games.

Busan 2-3 Gangwon

Busan usually gives a good account of themselves in the Cup, but this year it ended very quickly. Gangwon was awarded two penalties in the first half which were converted by Choi Seung-in (who coincidentally grew up in Busan). Shin Young-joon added a third for Gangwon before the break, and it looked all over from then. Busan did manage a token comeback attempt in the second half. Noh Haeng-seok pulled one back right after the re-start, and Weslley grabbed a second halfway thru the half, but an equalizer never came.

Pohang 1-2 Busan

Busan's round 9 match was pushed back to Tuesday for Children's Day. The team headed north to Pohang to take on the Steelers at the Steelyard. A game most (admittedly myself included) figured they would lose. But Noh Haeng-seok had other ideas as he headed home Joo Se-jong's free kick in the 16'. Pohang laid siege to Lee Bum-young's goal, but nothing came. A poor clearance from Pohang led to Busan's second goal. Han Ji-ho blocked the clearance and then finished coolly to put the team up 2-0. Pohang pulled one back, but wasn't able to find a tying goal.
