Steelers vs Dragons Preview
An important midweek clash sees the two POSCO teams facing off in very different form.
Coming into Wednesday night's game in Pohang, the Dragons remain undefeated and have surrendered a meager two goals against all season. One goal in the opening match against Jeju (who now sit 4th in the table), and one over the past weekend to third place Suwon. The defense has been well organized and quite stingy and looks to remain that way against a Pohang side that hasn't scored since their March 22nd win over FC Seoul.
The Steelers have dropped to 8th in the table and are reeling a bit after two straight losses. The attack vs both Jeonbuk and Jeju was mainly silent and now face the daunting task of scoring against a defense that has allowed the league minimum. While the two losses on the trot have certainly served as a wake-up call, the Steelers aren't in a good position to break their slump if their offense continues to sputter.
Though the Dragons attack has only netted three goals to the two they've allowed, Pohang has only recorded one clean sheet this season, so there will be openings should they be able to find them. After scoring the winner against Incheon and saving the draw against Suwon, Lee Jong Ho is certainly the man in form at the moment, but he'll need some help to get more than one in the back of the net. Ahn Yong Woo and Stevica Ristić will need to put in better showings up top if the Dragons are to exploit a shaky Steeler backline.
The two teams are separated by a single point coming into The Battle of POSCO, and each will desperately want all three. Depending other results on the night, a win for either team could see them into 4th place. More importantly for Pohang, a win at home would see them break their losing streak and get their season back on track. It'll be a tough road test for Jeonnam, but one they should come away with three points from.
Prediction: 2-0 Dragons
Game time's 7:30pm at the Pohang Steel Yard.
