News: Daejeon Hana Citizen Football Club

Daejeon Citizen Football Club will now been known as Daejeon Hana Citizen Football Club from the 2020 season onward and will be lead by former Pohang Steelers and FC Seoul boss Hwang Sunhong who has been appointed as the new manager. Furthermore, the Club's colours have changed to match those of the Hana Financial Group brand. In addition, the Club unveiled a new emblem and no fewer than nine new signings.

Held at Daejeon Chungmu Arena in the Jung District of the city, Daejeon Hana Citizen's inaugural ceremony was held for an event where fans and media were on hand to bear witness to the dawn of a new era for Daejeon Citizen Football Club. Following the take over of Hana Financial Group, details of Daejeon's new manager, official name, colours, and crest were unveiled along with the playing squad for the 2020 season.

As well as unveiling Hwang Sunhong as the new manager, Daejeon announced the signings of Connor Chapman from Western United, Lee Kyuro from FC Seoul, Lee Seulchan, and Choi Jaehyeon, Jung Heewong from Jeonnam Dragons, Park Jinseop from Ansan Greeners, and Koo Bonsang from FC Anyang.

Hwang Sunhong lead Pohang Steelers to the league and cup double in 2013.
Although it was made clear from any marketing materials which came from the Club's official social media channels, not to mention the dedicated website which Hana had set up to give fans the chance to offer suggestions for names and slogans, that the name Daejeon Hana Citizen wasn't real. The colour of the flag itself, however, was a sign of things to come. An image leaked on social media by a fan who was in attendance at the inaugural ceremony and given a free scarf, showed that the Club's new name was indeed Daejeon Hana Citizen, DHFC for short, and that the new badge would be a very simplified version of their current crest.

The club's new strip will also reflect the Hana brand and is predominately be teal with Daejeon's traditional dark red as a secondary colour. It was initially suggested that the new owners were to preserve Daejeon's traditions and values, at least that was what Daejeon City Mayor Hae Taejung had said before negotiations between Daejeon City Government and Hana had been fully completed..

However, any reservations or doubts which Daejeon fans may have had were proven correct, given what changes have been made. That said, given the fact that the Daejeon fans now know who will be leading the team, though, after the Club announced that Hwang Sunhong was to take charge, the Purple Arena faithful can start to look forward to the new campaign. Given Hwang's pedigree as a manager, and the acquisition of Connor Chapman from Western United, it is clear that Daejeon are targeting automatic promotion this term.

Daejeon are not the only team in K League 2 to have changed their name ahead of the 2020 season as Asan Mugunghwa's full transition from being a police team, where players could fulfil their military service duties, to a citizen club saw the birth of Chungnam Asan Football Club.
